Detailed instructions on how to download and wire-up “Windows Live Writer 2009” to easily publish to your DotNetNuke blog engine – as I do on both www.LanceLarsen.com and www.MADdotNET.com.
1) You’ll want to download new Windows Live Writer 2009 from the following link: http://download.live.com/writer
2) Run the install. It will ask if you want to install other Microsoft “Live” products – but for this, all the matters is that you select the Windows Live Writer application.
3) Once installed – run the application. Click on “Blogs” – and select “Add blog account…”

4) Select “Other blog service” – click “Next”.

5) On the “Add a blog account” screen, enter the Weblog Homepage URL ( which is just the URL you copy from your web browser’s address bar for your blog, see below for example ) and the Username and Password for your DotNetNuke account that is authorized to post blog entries in the fields , and if you don’t want to enter the password each time - click the checkbox for “Remember my password” – click “Next”.
6) On the “Select blog type” screen, you will select “MetaWeblog API” – and then you’ll need to get your MetaWeblog URL from your DotNetNuke Blog Settings (see below).

On your DotNetNuke blog page – click on “Edit Blog Settings”
Scroll down to the “MetaWeblog Options” and copy the URL (as highlighted below).
7) Once you click on “Next”, you’ll see the following screen come up:

8) If you see the following question come up – answer “Yes” – but it’s likely to give you the “Unable to Download Theme” screen – no issue, just click “OK”.

9) It should complete successfully – and take you back to the main screen.
10) On that screen, you can simply enter the title and description – and click “Publish” – you will then be taken in your blog listing in whichever browser is default for your system so you can see it live on your site!

11) If you should need to edit or delete your postings, you can simply do so by clicking the “Open” button in the main window – and a self-explanatory screen will be displayed allowing you to edit or delete old postings.
Good Blogging!
